Description
Sikaflex®-221 is a multi-purpose, long-term tested, stable, 1-component polyurethane, air moisture-curing elastomer sealant. US approved to ASTM C920 and federal specification TT-S-00230C. It is produced in accordance with ISO 9001 and 14001 quality standards and in accordance with the « Responsible Care » program.

Advantages
- 1-component
- flexible
- low odor
- resistant to aging and weathering
- does not cause corrosion
- paintable
- workable
- good adhesion on a wide spectrum documents
- NSF-approval for indirect contact with foods

Fields of application
Sikaflex®-221 exhibits a wide adhesion spectrum and is suitable for permanent flexible sealing of joints in the construction of transport equipment, containers, consumer equipment, equipment and other products.
Suitable base materials are metals, plated surfaces, wood, glass, ceramic materials, plastics, lacquered surfaces (2-coat lacquers), etc. For applications with thermoplastic materials prone to the formation of stress cracks, ask for expert advice. This product is only suitable for professional users. Before application, it is necessary to carry out adhesion tests on the used substrates.

Curing:
Sikaflex ®-221 cures by reacting with air humidity. In the winter outside and especially in heated spaces, the moisture content in the air is lower and the curing reaction is always slower when the fence is lower.

Chemical resistance:
When cured, Sikaflex®-221 is resistant to water, seawater, water-miscible cleaning agents, short-term resistance to fuel, mineral oils, as well as vegetable and animal fats and oils; Sikaflex®-221 is not resistant to solvents, thinners, organic acids, alcohol and some other aggressive materials. Due to the wide range of influencing materials and conditions, these data are only indicative. Binding conviction is subject to object examination.

Processing instructions:
Preparation of the substrate: the cemented surfaces of the parts must be clean, dry, without traces of fats, oils, waxes or other separating substances. The preparation of the substrate must be carried out according to the instructions of the valid surface preparation table.
Processing: Putty can be extruded from cartridges or bags using hand or air guns. For the cartridge, it is necessary to pierce the remaining hole in the threaded neck, screw on the adjusted nozzle. For the foil bag, after inserting it into the tube gun, cut off the closing clip, put on the plastic cone adapter with a thread for the nozzle and tighten it with the gun's union nut. Screw the modified nozzle onto the adapter. Adjust the nozzle with an oblique cut according to the dimension of the joint.
The working temperature of the sealant affects its extrudability and especially the stability of the bead after application. The optimal temperature of the material of the parts is between +15 °C and +25 °C. Depending on the type of packaging, the opened unprocessed sealant can only be stored for a short time.
Smoothing: In the case of treatment of putty squeezed out of the joint, the surface can be adjusted before creating the surface skin by smoothing with a trowel and using the Sika® Tooling Agent N smoothing product.
Overcoating: Sikaflex®-221 can be overcoated with most common systems. Sikaflex®-221 can be painted over after the surface skin has been formed. We recommend testing the possible reaction of the sealant with the varnish. Curing speed will decrease after repainting. In the case of firing, powder and heat-dried varnishes, it can only be applied to fully cured
